Analysis of Have You Ever...

Did you ever fall in love with someone,
But you know they didn't care?
Did you ever feel like crying,
But you know you'd get nowhere?
Did you ever look into their eyes,
And say a little prayer?
Did you ever look into their hearts,
And wish that you were there?
Did you ever see them walk away,
You see them turn and go,
And whisper, "God, I Love You",
But never let them know?

You'll cry, cut to misery and nearly go insane.
'Cause there's nothing in this world that causes so much pain.
If I could choose between love or death,
I think I'd rather die.
'Cause love is great, yet hurts so much,
And the price to pay is high.
So when I say don't fall in love,
You'll be hurt before it's through,
Believe me, 'cause I fell in love with you.

About this poem

I was 16 and madly in love with someone who couldn't fathom it was real. Still breaks my heart to know this is something I wrote at such a young age.
