Analysis of Reasons and Exemptions

Cherry Habol 1989 (Camarines Sur)

We don't see each eye to eye, we've got our reasons.
What you wished for is something different from what I imagined it to be.
I thought I knew everything about you,
I was wrong.

You weren't the same person I met six years ago ,
You've grown so tall and mighty from that little girl I once adored so delicately.
I was thinking that if I nurtured you enough, you'll grow to me,
for me, and with me.
I was wrong.

You've spread your wings and learned how to fly,
I was happy, I was proud and satisfied.
Little did I know, your field does not include my presence,
You chose to leave, to abandon this place I built for us to share for the rest of our coming years.

But I never loath you for your choices, I never regret giving you the freedom you well deserved.
I know this day would come for us, I just hoped I learned it sooner so I could've prepared my little heart.
You broke me, in a way I never imagined you could and would.

I have loved you with all I've got, given you my life and my hopes and scars,
I showed you so many things about me that I was so scared to show to others, I opened up to you,
Believe that if I shared my nightmares with you, you'll see me differently,
You'll love me unconditionally.

It  happened for a couple of years,
We were perfect, as what others think,
We were just so compatible, our bond is marvelous,
But nothing's permanent, just nothing in this world.

Now I am sailing independently, roaring my boat with no sympathy,
I don't seek an apology, I don't need it and will never be.
I know this path is going to be messy, the life ahead is going to be tricky,
But I chose to let you for you to grow, for you to find the happiness I thought I could offer you.

I have no regrets in saying goodbye,
We may not agree with so many things but our reasons are aligned,
We've got so many exemptions in this lifetime,
Don't waste my sacrifices, I killed myself just to keep you alive.

About this poem

This is how we ended those wonderful nights. The reasons why we agreed to take different paths despite the burning love and affection we had for each other.
