Analysis of Angel in the Distance

Manuel Santos, Jr 1973 (United States)

Erasure of the heart is a lost and archaic art.
Where would your wicked words even begin to start?
Loathsome levels of the skin permeate with dreadful inclination.
Fingers move but lose their way as they cascade away into the lava realm of acid admiration.

Cringe at what you think is real.
Feed your optical corrosion based on what you hardly feel.
Disconnect the cord of confinement.
Colors of the truth you once lived are completely off alignment.

Animalistic eyes hunt down the frown that is always against you.
Oceanic cries revolt and bum-rush through.
Carcass flame once full of anti-shame is finally re-lit.
Lies you've been fed, die off, bit by bit.

City tried to claim you but you soldiered home.
The streets tried to flatten you but you flipped the script and pointed it to their dome.

Rusted winters rake across your cinder remains of a petrified heart.
Secrets drown you and slowly rip you apart.

Do you sacrifice memory over tragedy?
Do you feed your guilt or your insanity?

Love runs dry.
Your mind on repeat indulges in a weeping sigh.

Softer than December smiles, your soul begs to feel the old ways of uncut youth.
You can try to bury it 800 feet underground but your heart aches to unveil the frozen truth.

The avalanche of ruptured words has finally committed you to the snake pit.
This liquid world pushes you farther away making your hands unfit.

And the icy rain from 1985 still makes you stronger than any winter you've ever felt.
Unionized smiles from friends of a forgotten time still makes your heart melt.

I miss the entanglement of treachery.
I try so hard to avoid the pot hole of obscurity.

Invalid back doors to my splintered heart start to slowly close.
I keep thinking I can somehow sing my way to the promised land but I don't want to impose.

Blind trees tried to show me the way home but I kept ignoring their steel trap lies.
Try to enjoy life as you hear all these undeveloped cries.

Will you choose victory over vanity?
Can you look outside of yourself or will you continue to drown in the ocean of inhumanity?
