Analysis of O, Give Praises to Glorious Mountains!
Mountains may soar to the sky.
Incline themselves to the heavens.
Greeting celestial realms with joy.
Desiring only fresh air.
At peace with their heavenly abode.
Landscaping the dome above earth.
Immensely, majestically posed.
A beacon of nature’s own artistry.
Rejoice ye who honor their presence!
O rejoice, and give thanks for their might!
Make known your obeisance to mountains.
Enhancing the world all about.
Rejoice for the mountains of nature.
O give praises to glorious mountains!

About this poem
Written in acrostic format, this seven-stanza, two-line poem, “O Give Praises to Glorious Mountains,” honors the life of Migdalia Romero, a pioneer Latina educator and an everlasting fanatic of the Argentinian tango. To many, she looms majestically like a mountain. Indeed, her Christian name, “Migdalia,” is of Spanish and Hebrew origin, and literally means “tower,” which like a mountain, is a bastion of protection.
