Analysis of AN ELOQUENT ELEPHANT

Ray Eden 1959 (Hackney)

AN ELOQUENT ELEPHANT

An elephant with eloquence
Is not much more than common sense
He chooses words with great aplomb
And never puts a word in wrong

He will regale you with his tales
Of treachery and trunkery
Of how and why and when and where
He'll make you feel like you were there

His wits will fit into your gloves
The roundness of his voice will soothe
He holds a room and no one yawns
He'll make you glad that you've been born

Impressive questions he will take
An answer handy in each case
His knowledge stretches far and wide
And he can see things from both sides

And on a plate a great summation
Touching on the subjects raised
And when his presentation's through
You'll all know more than you once knew

He'll wow you, bow and take his leave
He will not milk you for applause
You'll feel that he's been heaven sent
This elephant with eloquence.
