Analysis of insomnia

my eyes are black and recessed
A side effect of my lack of rest
It always looks like I'm on a narcotic
But it’s my sleep loss that is chronic

Why does every day
Have to end this way
on my back with a view of the ceiling
Unable to shake this sleepy feeling

I’ve counted those sheep
Even changed the sheet.
Fluffed my pillow,
reopened the window

I spend the whole day
Thinking of hitting the hay
I’m really starting to suffer
Without my REM sleep buffer

The room I now dread
Is the one with my bed
At Least the TV distraction can hide
The overwhelming urge to tranquilize
