Et te donner ne suffit plus, tu te prodigues :
L'élan qui t'emporte à nous aimer plus fort, toujours,
Bondit et rebondit, sans cesse et sans fatigue,
Toujours plus haut vers le grand ciel du plein amour.

Un serrement de mains, un regard doux t'enfièvre ;
Et ton coeur m'apparaît si soudainement beau
Que j'ai crainte, parfois, de tes yeux et tes lèvres,
Et que j'en sois indigne et que tu m'aimes trop.

Ah ! ces claires ardeurs de tendresse trop haute
Pour le pauvre être humain qui n'a qu'un pauvre coeur
Tout mouillé de regrets, tout épineux de fautes,
Pour les sentir passer et se résoudre en pleurs.
