Analysis of Masks

Tihani Waipapas 1987 (Hawaii)

Everyday she wakes,
She puts on her face,
Plasters a smile,
Does her hair,
She tries so hard,
She needs to escape,
She's made a friend,
He turns into her lover,
She built these walls,
To help protect her,
He's climb to the top,
He's breaking them down,
Piece by piece,
Her layers are removed,
She warns him to take it slow,
Layer by layer she feels so anxious,
She's never shown no one these scars,
So she tells him to be careful,
You might not like what you see,
The real me is not the one you want,
Please just love the me I am today,
With all these layers tucked away,
He grabs her hand and says it's okay,
They fight the darkness together,
There you see I'm not so lovable after all,
It's broken and cold inside,
Please oh please don't leave me now,
I've wiped away the fake,
I've shown you who I was,
I've fought my demons and yours as well,
I've bleed,  I've cried,  I've died inside,
I'm vulnerable and scared of what you see,
For the me on the inside is broken,
I'm missing pieces so please,
Before you leave me,
Replace the walls you've broken down,
For I do not wish to be,
With your gone and I'm just me.
