Analysis of Unnamed

‘You have to step in line!’
Is the leader’s battle cry,
‘Rebels will not be tolerated!’
The law says, ‘Conform or die!’

Conformity is the golden rule now
And like every rule it must be obeyed,
We mustn’t question what the leader tells us
But simply accept every lie he says.

‘Conformity or death!’
Is the choice the leaders give us,
Freethinkers cannot be allowed to live
Conformity is a must.

So, conform or lose your breathing privileges
That’s the choice that you have to make,
The leaders give no second chances
It’s the first chance you have to take.

Conformity or an early death
Are the choices we’re given now,
Thinking for yourself today
Is something they won’t allow.

About this poem

In the modern judgmental society where anyone who thinks for themself is regarded as racist, sexist, or some other word ending in -ist, it really does now seem to be a case of, "Conform or die!"
