Analysis of Lessons

As a kid I could not see,
The man I would come to be,
Kicking stones and playing ball,
Hunting deer in the fall,
Time on my side too endless to see,
I thought home would always be,

In that small town where I grew up, my mom taught me what life was about, feeding the chickens and the milking cows, lessons learned preparing for now.

As a young man I left for school,
Growing my hair out in search of cool,
The ladies I chased too fast for me,
Until I caught one and took a knee;
Time on my side still endless to see,
Leaving home was not so easy for me,

In that small town where I grew up, my mom taught me what life was about, feeding the chickens and milking the cows, lessons learned preparing for now.

Once I was married and father of three,
Kicking stones and playing ball,
Smiles on young faces hunting deer in the fall,
Time with kids was now borrowed I see,
Making a home was now up to me,

In that small town where I grew up, my mom taught me what life was about, feeding the chickens and milking the cows, lessons learned preparing for now.

Now that I’m old and covered with gray,
I think back on the lessons I learned every day,
I now realize there was no better way,
Time is now short and future not easy to see,
Home will always be precious to me,

In that small town where I grew up, my mom taught me was life was about, feeding the chickens and milking the cows, lessons learned preparing for now.
