Analysis of SHADOWS OF THE PAST

Shadows of the past
Haunt my world today,
Listlessly –
Lifelessly –
Like dreams now blown away.

Shadows bring back memories
Of some yester-time,
Achingly –
Mistakenly –
Like daggers through the mind.

Echoes of some better days
When life seemed oh so fair,
Then hoarsely –
Rather coarsely --
Your dreams are now nightmares.

Echoes of a yester world
With hopes to fill the room,
Then suddenly –
So utterly –
All hope has turned to gloom.

Shadows bring false promises
Of better things to come,
Till truth doth dawn --
And children mourn --
To find life’s race has run!
