Analysis of Dragons Lurking
Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)
Fiery dragons lurk
Behind gnarled trees, watching
As wary knights ride by.
Wary knights searching
Among the towering trees
For signs of danger.
Dinosaur-like heads
Peaking above the treetops,
As saurians near.
Peering over trees
Reptiles spot intended prey,
Riding unawares.
With nostrils flaring
Green and brown saurians,
Start forward at a charge.
Lumbering footsteps
Presaging fiery death,
As fierce reptiles approach.
Horses rear in terror
As green-brown reptiles charge,
Running down their prey.
Men clad in armour
Fighting against the great odds,
Battle for survival.
Men and horses dying
As serpents breath hot death,
Searing living flesh.
Many men are killed
Horses lying slain upon,
A bloody battlefield.
Dragons hide again
In the peaceful forest,
Awaiting further prey.
