Farewell my dignity

I loved you so intimately
But the world loved you more
You were my life’s standard
But the enemy struck you down

I thought you would be mine
Till death do us part
I held you close and personal
The essence of my living

Nobody told me you were royalty
That I was not meant to court you
That you were not of my station
I, the son of poverty

For love, I have fought for you
For love, I have mortally defended you
For love, I have defied gods
For love, you’ve got to let me go!

It has been made plain to me
In terms both painful and traumatic
That I can’t continue holding you
And still manage to live

Without you, life is colorless
Without you, life is meaningless
Without you, I feel half undone
But with you, it’s a sure doom

Goodbye my love!
