3 days awake (Descent)

E.S. Conway 1985 (United Kingdom)

Sleep, the elegant memory of a dream.
Absent now, as if in punishment for a crime I did not commit.
Shackled in a prison of shadow,
Serving time outside of time.
Frozen in a single moment beyond emotion. Held in stasis by deafening silence, silence that rages through me as if life has been forgotten. As if life itself is the dream and this, right now is existence.
Existence without corporeal form.
Though I have eyes, they see only darkness.
Yet I am awake.
Though I have ears, I am deafened by silence.
Yet I am awake.
Though I have a body, I feel neither warmth nor chill.
yet I am awake.
With no solution, I lie here,
Waiting for light to rise once again,
For the cycle to begin a new,
For the next day to come and go, before I am shackled once more.

This is also the reason for so much rhyming; though not necessary for poetry, it was part of what made poetry therapeutic for her and so is an almost certain constant. more…
