Wise Owl and Teapot Trivet (a haiku fable)
Hand and Heart warmers,
Wise Owl and Teapot Trivet
share Wood Stove's corners.
Four-legged Teapot
leaps into Wood Stove's ashes
playing hide and seek.
Wise Owl wants to play,
"But who'll warm Mr. Coffee,
if I fly away?"
As Dawn breaks Darkness,
Snow flurries on His Starkness.
Wise Owl, she worries.
The whole Day passes,
without her Teapot friend it
flows like Molasses.
"Hoot!", cries Wise Owl, "Hoot!"
Wood Stove has filled with ashes
to my feathered foot.
"Soon my friend I'll lose,
if Wood Stove doesn't sift him
from the chars and soot."
Blowing smoke, hot air,
hollow Stove Pipe whistles high
from his housetop lair:
"NO SWEAT for THIS team,
loosing impish Teapot who
rusts ME with his steam!"
"Oh Dear", Wise Owl shrieks,
puts on her thinking cap of
mortar-boarded peaks.
"We'll find a new home,
me and Teapot far away
from this pleasure dome."
"No time to be lost,
I'll dive down into Wood Stove
before Tea gets tossed."
"Our friendship will rise
like a Phoenix from ashes,
an Owl in disguise."
