but i didn't know

Nina R. Schapiro 1954 (TEXAS)

Once I live on an island
where the sweet papaya grow
and we ate our breakfast
down by the sea
and the world was a mess
but i didn't know.

I once was a nymph in a fairytale
and i lived in a waterfall
then there was a war
but my radio broke
and i had no idea at all

Once I lived in a magical place
some damned thing lured me away
lights may shine again from my face
but one went dim    and forever   that day
