Sacrifice

When you were born,

Did you know, your parents took an unconditional oath,

Sacrifice did they everything without a frown or loath,

Watching their deep love, did you have a lot to learn?

Like a diver in the deep ocean,

Did you ever swim that far for someone,

Finding new life, even when there was none to hold on,

Even if there were many options.

Values did you ever sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Without love, compassion, and kindness?

Misery and emptiness came to you with fondness?

Did your heart give up happiness you seek,

Only to see the loved ones life fulfilled through paths unique.

Feeling satisfied it brought meaning to the path,

Every single day holy as the sabbath.

Bad habits, attitudes, perceptions did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

With good thoughts, feelings, and emotions,

Did life serve you the magical potion?

Bring you closer to all things sweeter and divine,

Lies and deceit had no place to intervene.

Sleep did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

With devotion, spunk, and hard work?

Away from deviations and things that could leave you to lurch?

Arrogance did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Of knowledge, humility, and wisdom?

Did ignorance and self deceit come to you seldom?

Whining did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Of contentment and have more to give?

And lesser to complain about making most of what you have,

Sweet as honey from the bee hive,

Is your every day here and now?

Disrespect did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Where everyone is valued and treated equally,

No sign of condescend, no eyebrow raised at a petty folly.

Revenge did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Where forgiveness laid a new path of peace,

Laughs and conversations without a crease.

Anger did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Shaping angst into bouts of beaming creative synergy,

Is it off that window? excuses and lethargy?

Laziness did you sacrifice?

To build an edifice?

Filling moments with wonder and curiosity,

To know the unknown, standstill illuminating,

To propel on the road trip of your dreams,

Surrounded with cream-de-la-cream,

Making the best of everything,

Are you willing to sacrifice?

Control your senses from diminishing,

Rebelling wasteful tones the mind creates,

To build an edifice,

The world imbues to elevate.

Will you sacrifice?

All that is needed and not?

With a sound gumption brewing in your thought?
