Misty Look

In the mist of the morning,
He sits there in solitude,
With a look so forlorn,
His face so subdued,
I watch him silently,
Then take a step closer,
And sat on the seat nearby,
Moments pass,
With no words spoken,
Then I knew he saw me not,
My gentle tap,
On his shoulders hunched in,
I saw in a flicker,
The look of longing,
For days gone by,
His eyes so dim,
Gone was his brisk cheer,
I loved so much,
From my days as a child,
When did you come,
I heard him say,
Merely a whisper,
But I heard him well,
A while ago, was all I said,
Then his face went ashen white,
And faded into the misty dew.
