Walking Beyond The Pale

This fire burns black
Asphyxiating fumes
I inhale

As ashes wait to merge with earth
Smoke flies up to touch the sky
And Fails
I pick up detectable pieces
Pleading river to take them away
To no avail
Glaciers refuse to melt
Another betrayal is felt
As I walk beyond the pale
