There are times we need a mother to love us as we are;
someone who prizes uniqueness
and buffs our dimming star.

There are times we need a mother to smooth ruffled feathers;
someone who truly understands,
and cares without tethers.

There are times we need a mother with nurture for the way;
someone who ardently comforts
and our deep fears allay.

There are times we need a mother, especially when we're sick;
someone who makes a "chicken soup"
and heals without a snick.

There are times we need a mother, no matter what the age;
someone who upholds in guidance
with wisdom of a sage.
