The Ladybug Thief
Easy landing, sitting, showing
A magnificent, hardened shroud,
Orange, attractive, still and perched,
Wings ensconced ‘neath dimpled dots.
Alone I watch, on several trips
Admiration folded in,
Colors ‘round you not appealing,
Secure within your lofty perch.
Many days and weeks I passed,
Ever careful on these steps,
Knowing not from whence you came,
Knowing surely you’ll not go!
Every up and down reminds me
To remain close to these sides,
Guarding all the perches taken,
Observing fibers previously brushed.
Then one morning, upon remembering,
Slowly descending and kneeling down,
Only to see, you’re not there,
How deftly you were moved.
Your innate magnificence shined
Though you surely were long dead,
Did my grandson get you or
Perhaps the hem of my evening gown?
