The Carriage

the carriage of life came late today
i waited alone this untrodden way
the faint stars midst the darkness gleam
mute spectators for a broken dream

midnight she came with black steeds of four
oh woman, please, in this ungodly hour
kindly stop, see me hail, can't you see?
oh woman, why, pray, not stop for me?

the cold night bites, bitter than before
a quick askance, nothing less, nothing more
what of this sad soul? what does she care?
only a worth of a steel-cold stare

tears streaming down from my weary soul
dejected, languid, heartbroken and foul
waiting still for the chance to go home
hoping still for my carriage to come.
