The Call of Spain

There's a blend of Latin energy
That bursts like blossoms in the spring;
An eye which winks in playful scorn,
But seems to satisfy the stare
Which glistens coldly from the north.

How I wanted to dance with you there!
But the northern reserve holds fast -
It seems to button down my wings;
Your laughing serenades play on,
Yet all I do is shrug and smile.

Can you unfreeze my permafrost
In lands of matadors and Moors?
I'll leave my ice-axe to one side,
And listen to your sweet guitars
Till Spanish charms shall warm my heart.
