Snow in Virginia (2002)
When the stars moved the moon spoke,
and the clouds danced and the snow mounted,
the birds glided while the wind whisked the falling flakes,
and then I knew that the Creator had chosen to make the day a special one.
On that occasion no transmission from space,
with the most lively of actors no matter how cute
could ever match the power and grace of the One
who had chosen to make the day a gracious event.
With the white fluff getting deeper and my faith building
did I realize that there was no denying this force of nature.
Able to make a stand against all kinds of evil faces,
with the Almighty leading and conducting the greatest play of all.
When all had settled and the accumulation vaporized
did I look up into the heavens, yearning for a freedom that had escaped me.
Where the stars and planets with their favorite prophecies
could embrace and touch their favorite fan.
Finally, when sleep overcame me and acted like a blessing
did I realize that I am not in control
of the most precious moments meant to be realized
with someone with whom I can wake with the dawn of the new day.
