Once upon a maiden

Once upon a maiden
Brunette, blushed and bare
stood she amid a garden
with flowers fine and fair

Once upon a maiden
Laid I hope and care
my crimson heart she did gladden
with tenderness, respect and fear

Once upon a maiden
agile, strong like a mare
many-a-sorrow i did burden
misery-a-many she did bear

Once upon a maiden
affection died like a hare
strove I with might our moments not sadden
naive was I for she had breathed another man's air

Once upon a maiden
my heart, whose shears did tear
impossible was our dreamt grand weddin'
for we both, did err
