Grazing and Gazing

Feel the clover under your feet,
A country life is hard to beat,
Early to bed and early to rise,
Mists and dews each a surprise.
Hear the chomping of cows in grass,
See the contentment as you slowly pass,
Milking cows they have a worth,
Converting nourishment from the earth,
Whispering poplars that fringe the field,
Shelter the herd and increase the yield,
Peace and tranquility is the farmers lot,
One of the benefits that they have got.
Sun on the body it's nice and sweet,
Some would say the perfect retreat,
Methodical each milking steady the rate,
Then into the paddock through the gate.
Morning and night it's in the shed,
Regular as clockwork like going to bed,
Seasons they vary there's a spell or two,
Calving begins and you start anew.

I find it is a good way to record events of the day and bring history to life. The mental aspect is a balance against keeping fit, work and life in general. more…
