Epoch
My love scrambled in like a letter in red
With scrawled scribblings on her envelope.
Seductively recalcitrant she refused to be read
Or touched by hands that were gloved in hope.
She slid into my life through the clatter of steel
And floated for seasons in the conservative porch.
She slithered and shivered like a quivering eel,
Oiled in sunlight by His intrusive torch.
She nestled on the doormat like a wearying hound
Bright and fat and almost shaped like a coffin.
Her power gleaned meaning like a queen newly crowned.
Before the coarseness of her corners decided to soften.
Raising her up, I remarked that her seal appeared broken
And with trembling thumbs I was driven to open.
