Brinkmanship.

Brinkmanship is fair,
when not done in vain,
as to please only oneself,
ignoring all onlookers.

In can be in business
or in public affairs;
to show a prowess for
its own sake alone.

Those to impress are
likely to watch for
faults, to hold you
responsible always.

The sweetness of such
attitude is the length
of time it will last,
or it may let you down.

Brinkmanship can have
its moments of joy, out
of the skills to run the
risk of hidden failures.

To hold on to success will
demand the experiences you
have acquired from the begi-
nning of living your life.

I have been a poet for the past 30 years or so. My background is in communications, working mostly for nondescript media outlets. I have lived in New York City since 1972, but now reside at Mount Vernon, NY. My passion for poetry started when I was very young, when my mother used to read me bedtime stories. She, however, wanted me to become an engineer, operating trains; but I chose other options, with being a poet as one of them. more…
