awaken

hanging leave,
the remnant of passed summers.
The cool grip of winter's despair
melts with the snow.
Soon the woods will awaken
with the sound of the songbird's
cries of joy after her long journey
home.
And the woods will echo with
the joyous cheeps of young, hungry nestling chicks.

The ground will awaken so the squirrel
can find hid awaiting nut,
the one that carried him through the long winter

the reluctant warmth will awaken
the dear to run and feast on the newborn grass

the dark, green rolling hills will
bore the butterflies and lush,
delicate wildflowers
as the lustful, young rabbit slips
on the dew blessed with the rays of the early morning sun

new leaves will replace the fallen
like the Phoenix from the ashes of former despair
the dusk of the sun will awaken
the stars and the moon
cool will fall over the woods but dawn awaken
the fields
the meadow
the hills
 the mountain
the woods the valley and finally me.

The shy sun's rays will kiss and caress,
the leaves
the songbird
the squirrel
the dear
the grass
the butterflies
the rabbits
the wildflowers
for this glorious day will end

the moon and the stars will awaken to play
the owls hoots the hymn of the night
the crickets silently harmonize
for nothing is everlasting

the tall figures in the dark will
awaken with the golden rays of warmth
I will awaken for another day in this forest

for minute pass into hours
hours form days
days become weeks
weeks soon become months
months slip into years
years fade into a lifetime
which slips away like a tree limb over a waterfall
never to be seen again

the yearling squirrel
the cautious fawn
the delicate newborn grass
and the the breathlessly screaming nestling chick
will survive for their many years
while the elder will treasure the time left
for nothing is everlasting

with spring another year of my life
slips passed me
my time has begun to fade away
like wind on an Autumn evening
so I will live for to day

the dawn kisses the happiness
 into the woods
the dusk covers it with sorrow
but not for long

for rain will fall
the sun will shine
the crystal blue sky will
fade into black
with starlight glistening
in hope of dawn's embrace

everything will fade away
fade to nothing
but the light will prevail
giving the innocent hope
shatter the sorrow

awaken the ghost I have become
