Anastasia (Innocent Blood)
"Come with me," said a voice that I had never heard before.
I looked up to see the pale apparition of a girl.
She outstretched a wispy hand, and with uncertainty I took it,
But the place she led me to, I somehow could not bear to look at.
There were seven people standing there, with faces scared and glum
As if somehow, deep inside them, they had known what was to come...
They were dressed up to the nines, as if they had somewhere to go
While outside, the Russian landscape became blanketed with snow.
Then the door was creaking open, and in walked each drunken man.
One was reading from a little piece of paper in his hand.
All the while, I watched the face of that strange girl that led me here
And in her eyes, I saw what was an everlasting fear.
I could tell - yes, I was certain - she had walked this room before...
She had been one of those seven that they shot down to the floor.
