An Honorable Man (For Tomy) ~ a repost

An Honorable Man

Life and Death are separated by a flimsy line
It vibrates so you can't see it
It comes so quickly sometimes
Or you watch it slip away

But you and I sleep
Sound slumber safe in our beds
There are those who watch
The line becomes clear sometimes
Then the line blurs

hesitation for them can cross the line
they have bloody hands that never wash
and backs that never can break
because when one falls, a brother carries
him back over the line

So sleep the sleep of the sound
Sleep the sleep of the safe
Sleep the sleep of the free
But never forget the men and women
Watching the line become clear
Making decisions in the blink of an eye
That can cost them their lives
