A Teenage Confession

I twirled my spaghetti around on my plate.
Afraid to tell her for she'd be irate.
I looked up at her and then down again
Feeling like I had committed a sin.

I was fifteen, too young for a child
No one would expect it - I wasn't that wild.
With a deep breath and a fluttering heart
I finally got ready for the hard part.

I looked at my mom and started to cry
She looked so confused; she didn't know why.
"I'm pregnant," I cried and put down my plate
All I could do was sit there and wait.

I knew she would yell, surely she'd scream
I was just wishing that this was a dream.
Instead she just hugged me and pulled me to her
The rest of the moment was all a big blur.

She understood, more than I thought
It turns out my worry had all been for naught.
For I had been born while she was teen,
And that had worked out, as we both had seen.
