A Journey For Love
As the stranger shivered, in the fire light glow
She rubbed her hands, that burn cold from the snow
As the water drizzled, from her once soaked clothes
I brought her a blanket, to help starve out the cold
She told me her journey was one of importance
The Reverend himself said the message was potent
As in her satchel she held a letter sealed with gold leaf
A letter for the king or maybe, the new chief
She begged me to hide her, as we hear horses approaching
Renegade soldiers that would kill her, saying she's poaching
The fear in her eyes, leads me to hide her in the woodshed
As I served strong whiskey to the soldiers, I make up their bed
When they were sleeping, a sleep of the dead
I made my way carefully to the woodshed
With fresh new clothes and my fastest steed
She rode with urgency, West through the tree
Off in the distance, I can see she reaches the castle
As she makes her way to the king, I send in my finest kestrel
The note my bird carried was still a strange mystery
As I was told only to release it when a young girl visits me
The bird landed on the arm of the beautiful princess
As she handed over, her own note covered in golden thread
It read, I wish and desire to marry my beautiful prince
Without my love he will die and I will never know peace
The note from the kestrel read this is for the king's speech
The church blesses the marriage of the now dying prince
Without true love, he will die and loneliness will take his last breath
The princess has proved her loyalty and her love with this test
She has proven her strength, her devotion was her greatest skill
As we have done everything that we could, to break down her will
She has proved herself worthy to marry the future king
And we will all live in peace and happiness once again
