Breaking

There I am, standing there,
from which the world I'm unaware.
Through grass, to dirt, to ice, I'm taking
But it's not the world, it's my mind
that's breaking.

Steady footing, I watch me walk
a step without a second thought.
I watch my face, the mask it bears.
I see my heart with all its tears.
I feel the pain, my body aching
But it's not my bones, it's my mind
that's breaking.

I try to shake myself awake
But my grasp feels too fake
My body, as I witness, falls away.
For its light has gone astray.
A lonely tear, afraid, alone.
Its maker's fate, it can't condone.
And so, that tear, it runs for help.
To my body, quickly I skelp.
My sorrowed chest, I saw, was quaking
But it's not my heart, it's my mind
that's breaking.
