Blind Date
Blind Date
- by - Bob Atkinson
her dreams became a nightmare
when he showed with such distress
a man of few distinctions
for this she wore best dress?
Her faith in future happiness
fell flat without progress
although willing to proceed
no conviction did she possess
conviction this man of drink
had a future in this world
with anything resembling success
or a flag proud to unfurl
she had been at birth christened
Aimee which means much loved
but never in her young life
had this become her charge
for nobody came to her defense
when accused of things not right
so she accepted tribute from
those characters of the night
he had asked her for a time
an evening out for food
but she found his appetite
lie in a liquid not a spoon
for never in her wildest dreams
would twenty one find her single
a would be débutante
without portfolio or good principle
so she wandered in her mind
thinking thoughts of better times
when her reputation was mended
and her balance intertwined
got folded into production
of things with better value
than a night watching a man
drink until alcohol saturated
then carrying him to his flat
with coin from his pocket
her efforts to present herself
not seen because of nausea
