A River Flows.
A River flows reflecting autumn colours
During its descent from the mountain of
Benevenagh on its way to Lough Foyle…
A river of the valley of the O’ Cahan’s:
A vale whose artistic contribution to the
Culture of Eire is acknowledged.
Containing gems accepted by many and
One in particular, ‘The Limavady Air’
Destined to be he soul of ‘Danny Boy’.
Originating with the Gaelic Clan of the
O’Cahan’s but expressed via a Roevalley
Musician known as Jimmy McCurry.
Then to be heard by a Miss Jane Ross
In a town which was given its name
Based upon the leap of an Irish hound.
Unknown to Jane her copying of the Air
Would become the heart of the immortal
Ballad known and loved as ‘Danny Boy’.
A ballad recalling pipes of the Celtic past-
A connection between the Celts of Ireland
And of Scotland. But germinating within the
Heart of an English composer, Frederic
Weatherly, whose art appears to be
Riddled with the culture of the Gael.
An art bearing the touch of the flow of The
Roe on its daily journey to Lough Foyle
Not far from the grove of St. Colm Cille
The mystical dove of the City of Doire.
