Tartar Memory

In a storybook land, at a sidewalk cafe
On Satpaev Avenue, I dreamily
Gazed into the eyes of a Tartar fay,
Giving my heart away too hastily.

Enchanted days passed on so speedily,
Leaving my mind ensnared in a pixie
Spell I surrendered to so readily,
And I must admit, oh so foolishly.

I traveled across the Central Asian steppes,
Heard the Shaman's exotic Dombra song
Echoing across the lonely brown steppes,
Haunting me as the old train sped along.

How was I to know it could never last?
That this lucid dream would so quickly fade,
Hurriedly receding to a somber past,
Leaving sad memory my mind to lade?
