A Darkness Untold

There’s a darkness untold
Yet I fight ever bold.
I search,
but cannot see
The unfortunate fate that is yet to be.

As I stumble in life
With my dreams full of strife,
I live,
but remain dead,
For I fear that this world is just in my head.

I try harder yet again
But my hopes are in vain.
I grasp
while pressures bound
Imprisoning my heart in tombs underground.

I shudder at the rain
That gives me grief and pain.
I feel,
but emotions flee,
So inexplicable and unreal to me.

There was darkness untold,
Yet I fought ever bold.
I searched
but never could see
That unfortunate fate impending on me.

About this poem

This was my first ever poem, written c. 1998. It's gone through many iterations since then but has been included in my book Tarnished Treasures. This poem became almost prophetic in the things that would later happen to me in life. This is about the teenage angst we all go through or have been through. Although it ends on a bit of a dark note, I want all who read this who are still going through a painful dark period to remember that it will get better. No problem stays forever.
