HELP! I'VE LOST MY RELIGION!

Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)

HELP! I'VE LOST MY RELIGION!

Help! I've lost my religion!
Help! I've lost my hope!
These rules are a binding rope
I can't do it on my own
Dear Lord, I shoulda known!

Help! I've lost my religion!
Help! I've lost my chance!
I'd dance the religious dance
Sing what they'd all sing
But I was mocking the True King!

Help! I've lost my religion!
Help! I've lost my way!
I'd stand up and shout to pray
But I was playing a game
Using Jesus' Name!

But when I lost it all
Who did I call?
(Guess?)
I called on Jesus' Name
(Yes!)
Nothing was ever the same
You can go to Church on Sunday
And claim to know the Way
You can study on Friday night
And claim to fight the Gospel fight
If you don't know Jesus personally
You're just playing a game silly!

When I bowed at His feet
And Salvation I meet
Wrapped in the arms of my Lord,
He handed me His sword
And said, "no go out
And loudly SHOUT!"

So I go to everyone
And I point to His Son
When I hear, "Help! I've lost..."
I point to the Cross

You can play the Game
Claiming a Holy claim
You can walk like a Catholic Saint,
But without Jesus...you ain't

Oh I've lost my religion,
But look what I've found
Freedom in Christ, once I was bound
A Holy name, outta the game
A Friend and Master in the same
Now I talk, where I once pray
I've found love, Salvation today !

Oh, I've lost my lies
Wow! Christ broke the ties
That had bound me like a slave
From religion, Jesus saves
AMEN

About this poem

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. Matthew 23 2-3
