Dissonance

The sun is hot
But I am cold.

My eyes are wide
But my mind is asleep.

The world is alive
But I am a loof.

Everything screams:

"Live for today"
When I died
Yesterday.

About this poem

The poem seems to express a sense of contrast and disconnect between the speaker and the world around them. The first stanza juxtaposes the heat of the sun with the speaker's feeling of coldness, suggesting a disparity between external and internal experiences. The second stanza highlights a contradiction between the speaker's wide eyes, possibly indicating physical awareness, and a dormant or inactive mind. The third stanza emphasizes the liveliness of the world while portraying the speaker as detached or distant ("a loof"). The final lines convey a sense of disillusionment or resignation, with the speaker feeling disconnected from the present moment and reflecting on their past. Overall, the poem explores themes of disconnection, introspection, and a sense of being out of sync with the world.
