K9

As I grow
With the passage of time
I feel as though I have failed
As a human being it’s not that it has gone unseen

I have no love for the human race
But find myself
Infatuated with the four-legged furry face
Of that wonderful, tail wagging, beyond loyal, joyful toil

The daily parenting of my permanent two old
Of the constant attention
Of which I never grow cold

The anticipation of being together again
Repairs my day, and puts my heart to mend
It is fascinating to me that she allows me to see
How to be happy and free
Without ever communicating a word to me

They need so little to be content
And I truly believe they are
Heaven sent
For what else could they be meant?

They need so little
To reap joy
They crave the words “good boy”
Or is it “good girl”?
Either way
I’m happy to give both a whirl

Perhaps she is my life’s guide
A delightful journey
I must confide

The bond is beyond
Anything of my own kind
No words justify my feeling for her

She is my child
She is my love
She is my priceless gift from above

I happily share
I gladly care
Am acutely aware
That I am overwhelmed

I was not prepared
For the theft of my heart
But she stole it right from the start

I am hers
And she is mine
A willing commitment to the sublime

It is difficult to describe
The honor to be part of her tribe
To be accepted
With love reflected

A worthy troop
They are my group
They keep me in the loop
They are my peeps
They are for keeps

My brethren of the fur
Their hearts are solid and pure
The loyalty they display
Does endure

Am I worthy of their love?
Doesn’t seem to matter
They rise above
The petty question of worth
To them I am welcomed from birth
To journey at their side
To learn what they confide
To love the ride
Of life
With the passenger of the paw
I stand in dumbfounded awe
Of their simple, sinless, way
To conduct their day

To this
I thank God in every way
For the gift
That gives my heart a lift
And never leads me astray
The law of the paw
Leaves me in awe
To my tribe of a different hoof

Woof, Woof!!!
