a silly little crush

Carmen Strydom 2006 (Bethlehem, Freestate)

it’s been so long since I felt the butterflies
the giddy feeling when someone says a certain name
the rush of tingles racing up and down my spine
it’s been so long since I had a silly little crush on a silly little boy
blue clear eyes
brown unruly, yet tidy hair
a smile that reminds me of every sunset i have ever watched
devastatingly beautiful and so very oblivious
I don’t think he even knows my name
it doesn’t matter though
because this isn’t serious
crushes are never meant to be taken seriously
all you want is the feeling, the excitement
it doesn’t matter whether he notices the ends of your mouth quirk up if you smile
or the way you listen intently while someone is talking
it’s okay, because you do. You notice
you notice these things
but you don’t have feelings for him
you barely know him!
but school is just a bit more exciting and thrilling and daring
locking eyes for all of 2 seconds is what it’s about
the butterflies is all you want
until someday it won’t be enough.

About this poem

The feeling of having a new crush after a really long time, but you know it won’t last long because in your heart you bleed for a deep connection. A connection wat past having a typical crush
