A story about love and autism

a girl with autism falls in love
She’s awkward and unsure, like looking through a tinted window trying to see what’s on the other side
She holds one hand on her heart and the other on a knife
This is a new and unknown feeling
Precautions are necessary, things change at the worsts times
Going into something with one foot is the only way she does things
The world is far to unpredictable to ever relax
The boy was blind to her caution signs
Marching on hypnotized by the sweet smell that lingered around her
She smelt of a flowers and so
The boy would bring her flowers, he thought they suited her
Delicate but beautiful, dependent on the sun
but the vines grew thorns and wrapped around her throat
She couldn’t bear the thought of using the knife she once had and so she’d use her brain trying to unwind them like a puzzle
But every time she’d push and pull the thorns would sink deeper into her skin
The boy was blind to what his flowers were doing to her
She was hard to read
Stuck in the game she called love
She was loosing the game, unsure why she couldn’t unravel the knot with logic
They would pull away from each other but the vines he left would continue to hurt her more and more
They were never meant to be together in the first place
The boy can leave appreciating the time spent with the delicate rose but
The boy was never a puzzle
And because she thought of him as one, she could never move on
His vines Embedding into her skin reminding her of the sentiments she once felt
And the love she’ll never allow herself to feel
To distract herself from the pain of the vines she would dig her head into a pile of school books
Those puzzles she could solve
It made her feel in control understanding even the most complex polynomials
But they never numbed the pain of the vines choking her
It was a quick fix
Love was never meant for autism
Logic and emotions never mix
One day she’ll realize that
But for now the vines will torment her until she’s ready to let go
