Mum

Robert loughran 1962 (Ireland)

I could find no ending to my mother's love, or even a beginning.

No scale, no start,no ending point,

It was simply beyond all measure.

Always there, the air in which we lived,

the total background in our upbringing..

It held us up, it flowed unbound,

no break in it was ever found.

A seamless river of unquestioning love,

never withheld,it flowed without cessation.

Beneath our feet and in skies above,

it filled our lives with the truest love,

It did not need creation.

For It was beyond volition or control.

Love is all and everything my Mother is,

Love the very substance of her soul.

About this poem

About a nature that knew and expressed only love.
