Self-Justification
Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)
When David was the king of all
The Hebrews long ago,
The monarch thought he could not fall
In sin like others, though
He saw Bathsheba who was more
Than beautiful so he
Had someone who'd bring her before
He faced reality!
He told himself a king can do
Whatever kings feel like.
But soon he learned that it's not true
Because kings aren't godlike!
He lied and lied; his conscience fell
Into the mind's abyss,
Until a prophet came to tell
"God says you have remised"!
