Ashes to Ashes, like a phoenix we are reborn

Ashes to Ashes, like a phoenix we are reborn
A poem by Nadine Yaghi
Standing at the edge of the rubble
I dream of a place where there is no struggle.
I dream of a life where I do not have to suffer.
My eyes are colourblind except for the shade of red
And my words are failing me except for the tears I shed
My limbs do not carry me anymore.
They are amputated.
What have I done?
To deserve being annihilated
I call out for my mother Gaza, but my voice turns into an echo
That travels beyond the realms of tombs that turned into a ghetto.
Abandoned even by the forces of nature.
For no human nor creature is safe from danger
A white cloak of death wraps around my burnt skin
That was once perfect but now is all brittle and thin
Yesterday seems like a dream
Where life was life and death was a natural theme
Today death is the conqueror and our white and blue oppressors
Bask in the glory of their demonic pleasures
Tomorrow is supposed to be another story but will tomorrow be even present?
To lift us to the skies as martyrs and free us from our depression
I look around me and all I see is destruction
Even the smell of the sea is mourning our extinction
Can anybody hear me or has the world gone deaf?
For I am still breathing
but time Is ticking as a bomb inside my chest
Yet I still rise as a phoenix from the ashes
And shout aloud as the wishes in my heart clashes
As the genocide continues and amplifies
Presidents sit still in their chairs,
contributing to the ethnic cleansing with their supplies
They say ashes to ashes and dust to dust
But every day as we endure and trust In god
for humanity has failed, and all the little souls have gone to waste
We are not just flesh and bones, we are superhumans
Created on earth for absolution.
So together we pray for peace and glory
We are not just numbers, we are holy.
Falsteen is our collective name, we are not nameless
Shame on all of them with their cowardly faces.
Falsteen is our identity and forever it shall be
Even if we end up buried beneath the sea
For the earth is weeping from the massive massacre
And can no longer contain our dismantled parts that plea to our ambassadors
Falsteen is a talisman that holds the key to return
Together we can rise and yearn
For better days to come and wash up all this pain
Together we can stand up and finally break the chain
