A Picture Of Love

Albert Browning 1943 (Puritan Mines, WV)

I paint myself this picture of a love from long ago
A vision of a peaceful time before you had to go
With canvas on the easel, I pick my favorite brush
Painting from my memory the one I loved so much.

The landscape a meadow, with a maple on the hill
Reminds me of the many times we frolicked in the fields
That lazy little rambling brook with it's tiny stepping stones,
It's rippling waters warm and clear fond memories I have grown.

Our cozy little cottage on that grassy knoll
So many cherished memories as we both grew old
And often times we lay beneath that weeping willow tree
On a warm and pleasant autumn before God took you from me.

And then with no warning, a rainbow starts to grow
Vibrant colors through the sky with a lovely reddish glow
From North to South it stretches and slowly warms my soul
Ending on that lonely grave where lies my love of ole.

Yes, ending on that lonely grave where lies my pot of gold.
