An Evening to Remember

I set silently on the beach,
And watch the setting sun.
Falling deep into thought,
Of things that I have done.

A most vivid memory,
Of that one spring day.
When I was lying in a shade,
After my curiosity, led me astray.

The trees were the heartiest green,
And the sky was the purest of blue.
I daydreamed of falling in love,
And hoped, that it would come true.

In the distance was an armadillo,
Rustling in the leaves, then pushing them aside.
I remember chasing him through the underbrush,
Until he had nowhere, else to hide.

I could hear the neighbors talking,
Even though, they were a mile away.
The air was so calm and peaceful,
The perfect prelude, to end a perfect day.

There was a faint flickering,
Reflecting in the corner, of my eye.
Moments later and to my delight,
Fireflies, filled the sky.

The nightbirds began calling,
And the crickets, were joining in.
Its time to go inside,
And let the day, proclaim its end.

An evening to remember,
Cherished memories, fleeting and free.
Experiences I would live again,
If ever, it could be.

Joe McLaughlin

Raised on a small farm outside of a small town in Texas, I was no stranger to work. It is this work ethic that has propelled my professional success but there is this other side of me. The side that deeply thinks about things. The side with an imagination and a desire to use my hands for more than just brute physical labor. more…
