Hurry Up and Wait

Justin Lopp 1981 (Detroit,MI)

Hurry up and wait, such a simple and cruel fate.
Wait, wait, wait, then move quickly up the line ever closer to the distant gate.
Stand silent and sedated, eyes ahead, arms at side.
Don't fall out of your cannon fodder formation and wait quietly for the final ride.
Pay each toll along the line with blood and time. Don't worry about the screams ahead, it will all be fine.
Don't think too much, just follow the sign and always stay in line.
Of course, it's your choice, but to deny our rules would be considered a crime.
It's almost your turn, pay the tolls and pass on your line debt to your successors.
When you step through the gate, it will then be your children's turn to hurry up and wait.

About this poem

A poem about our blindness to how we are exploited by our social structure and allow others to dictate every move we make until we die and then pass on that cycle of exploitation to our children. Its a piece about commonwealth debt to a fabricated idea created by the rich and powerful ,who could no longer rule by divinity alone.
