Believe Them

Robert T. Davenport 1979 (Newark, New Jersey)

Believe Them
By Robert T. Davenport

When someone shows you who they are,
Believe them, my dear, don't disregard,
For in their actions, the truth is laid bare,
A glimpse into their soul, a truth to share.

It may be painful, it may be hard,
To accept the reality, to discard,
The illusions we create, the masks we wear,
But the truth, my friend, is always there.

For words may deceive, they may mislead,
But actions, my dear, are the seeds,
That bloom into the essence of one's being,
Revealing the truth, no matter how fleeting.

When someone shows you their true face,
Believe them, my dear, don't embrace,
The fantasies we weave, the hopes we hold,
For the truth, my friend, cannot be controlled.

It may be tempting to make excuses,
To justify their actions, to diffuse,
The discomfort that arises within,
But the truth, my dear, is where we begin.

For when someone shows you their true self,
Believe them, my dear, for nothing else,
Can shield you from the pain that may come,
When you deny the truth, when you succumb.

It takes courage, my friend, to face the truth,
To let go of illusions, to find your truth,
But in the end, it's a gift you receive,
The power to discern, the strength to believe.

So when someone shows you who they are,
Believe them, my dear, no matter how far,
The truth may take you, the path may be steep,
For in that truth, my friend, lies the wisdom you seek.

Embrace the truth, let it guide your way,
For in its presence, you'll find the strength to stay,
True to yourself, true to your worth,
Believe them, my dear, and reclaim your birth.

For when someone shows you who they are,
Believe them, my dear, and raise the bar,
For you deserve honesty, love, and respect,
And in believing the truth, you'll find your aspect.
